KIBALE NATIONAL PARK COMMUNITIES GET 100 MILLION

The communities surrounding the Kibale National Park are now reaping the benefits of tranquil co-existence with wild animals. Charles Tumwesigye the Chief Warden said,” A total of 112M has been released to the community parishes neighboring the park in Kabarole, Kamwenge, and Kasese and Kyenjojo district.”

Sh 14.9 M cheque was handed to Kasese district and is a share of last year’s revenue (2007)

The Works Secretary, Silvan Mulhondi, received the money on behalf of district.

The Chief Warden, Charles Tumwesigye mentioned that Kabarole district would get (Sh.36.5M), Kamwenge (Sh. 32.6 M) and Kyenjojo (Sh.28.6 M)

In the past year (2007) 6,500 tourists visited the park last year. Future revenue is said to be directed to projects that will impact the local communities.

Mulhodi expressed his gratitude to the wildlife authorities for coming up with such a productive project. The future projects are said to change the attitudes of the communities living near the parks toward wildlife.

Mulhodi stated “We shall continue to educate our people to continue living in harmony with the animals in the parks.”
